A North Las Vegas construction site became the backdrop for a violent escalation when John Garcia, 46, allegedly opened fire on his former co-workers, weeks after being terminated for prior aggressive behavior. Garcia now faces multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
The incident began on April 23, when Garcia reportedly threatened and physically assaulted colleagues at a construction site, leading to his dismissal. Subsequently, he is accused of making further threats at another job site and being involved in a hit-and-run incident.
On May 2, surveillance footage captured a dark-colored pickup truck approaching the original construction site, followed by gunfire. One employee returned fire, injuring Garcia, who was later found with a gunshot wound and an AR-15 rifle in his vehicle. Police also discovered an open container of alcohol in the truck.
Garcia, a convicted felon with a history of burglary and firearm offenses, reportedly cited personal struggles and workplace tensions as factors in his actions. He is currently held at the Clark County Detention Center, awaiting a court appearance scheduled for May 20.
