CARSON CITY, NV — An emergency lockdown at Carson High School was lifted Monday afternoon following a multi-agency law enforcement sweep triggered by a fraudulent active shooter call.

The incident—identified by authorities as an apparent “swatting” prank—disrupted afternoon class dismissals and prompted lockouts across two counties before deputies confirmed no active threat, weapons, or injuries were present on campus.

Emergency 911 Threat Triggers Two-County Staging

At approximately 1:41 p.m., the Carson City Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from an individual claiming to be distraught and stating he was entering the school to shoot students. Dispatchers reported hearing background audio simulating active gunfire.

Because the caller’s initial statements were ambiguous regarding which school was being targeted, emergency dispatchers initiated simultaneous responses in both Carson City and Douglas County. Both Carson High School and Sierra Lutheran High School initiated emergency lockdowns.

On-campus School Resource Officers (SROs) at Carson High School immediately confirmed that no shots had been fired and no active violence was taking place. Out of an abundance of caution, tactical deputies from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Nevada State Police troopers conducted a systematic, room-by-room clearance of the 300,000-square-foot facility and surrounding perimeter grounds.

Campus Cleared and Dismissals Coordinated

Following thorough searches of all classrooms and wings, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong declared the campus secure. The lockdown was officially lifted around 3:00 p.m., allowing students to be safely escorted out of the building.

The Carson City School District coordinated with transportation teams to manage afternoon bus schedules, maintaining elementary and middle school routes before redirecting buses back to Carson High School to transport students home.

Detectives with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office are working alongside regional telecommunications analysts and state investigators to trace the origin of the spoofed transmission under Nevada’s felony swatting statutes.
