Las Vegas, NV – A serious fire broke out in a home in southwest Las Vegas early Thursday morning, leaving four people unaccounted for.
The Clark County Fire Department got the call around 4:08 a.m. and arrived to find flames pouring out of the second- and third-story windows. Two people inside managed to jump from the third floor and were taken to UMC for treatment. Meanwhile, four other occupants are still missing.
Firefighters first tried to enter through the front door on the second floor but were pushed back by the heat. They then cut through the garage door to search for others, but the second floor collapsed, making things even tougher. To keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes, crews switched to a defensive approach. A second alarm went off at 4:18 a.m., and by 4:22 a.m., firefighters were able to put out the flames from the outside and start searching through the wreckage.
The roof and floors collapsed into a big pile of debris in the garage, making it hard to continue fighting the fire. Fire crews are still checking for any hotspots, and heavy rescue teams, along with Nevada Task Force 1 specialists, are helping with the search.
They’re still trying to find out what caused the fire. This situation is evolving, so more updates will come as information is available.
