LAS VEGAS – As Tax Day approaches, the United Way of Southern Nevada has announced a partnership with the IRS and local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs to provide free tax preparation services to eligible individuals.
These services are available to those who generally earn $60,000 or less per year, as well as people with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English-speaking taxpayers in need of assistance.
“We are proud to support local VITA programs to ensure Southern Nevadans are able to access the support they need to file their taxes at no cost,” said Julian High, President and CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada. “The additional funds provided through a tax return can provide support to Southern Nevadans by helping cover the cost of basic needs and set them up for success in the future.”
According to the United Way, last year alone, approximately 31 million workers and families received about $64 billion back after qualifying for the Earned Income Tax Credit. These funds could help cover essential expenses such as groceries, rent, utilities, and other bills.
Locations for free tax preparation services can be found by visiting the Nevada Free Taxes Coalition or IRS websites. Tax Day is set for April 18.
