Guard to Assist ICE: Lombardo Signals Nevada Will Enforce the Law

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, August 11, 2025 12:17 pm

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo is moving to take real action where others have hesitated, preparing to authorize the Nevada National Guard to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This follows a recent Department of Justice report naming Nevada among the states in defiance of federal immigration law—a list no state should want to be on.

Lombardo’s office confirmed that the authorization process is underway and that the mission will be fully funded by the federal government. In an age when many leaders are more concerned with political optics than national security, this move represents a step toward restoring law and order at a time when it is sorely needed.

According to a spokesperson, Guard members will be temporarily assigned in an administrative capacity, primarily processing detainees. Even so, the decision signals that Nevada is willing to stand with federal authorities in enforcing immigration laws, despite the political backlash such cooperation often draws from the left.

For too long, open-border advocates have downplayed the strain illegal immigration places on communities, from overloaded public services to diminished job opportunities for citizens. Deploying the Guard may not solve every problem, but it sends a message: the rule of law still matters, and states can and should work alongside federal agencies to protect their citizens.
