A man accused of attempting to kidnap a woman was shot and injured by Henderson police officers during an incident Sunday morning, according to the Henderson Police Department.
Officers responded around 9:45 a.m. to a residence in the 1000 block of Center Street following reports that a man was trying to force a woman into his vehicle. Police said that when officers arrived, they saw the suspect attempt to flee the scene in the vehicle.
Authorities stated that officers ordered the suspect to stop, but he instead drove the vehicle toward them. Officers then fired their weapons, striking the suspect. Despite being injured, the suspect continued driving away from the area.
Police later located the suspect at his home after a 911 call was placed. He was transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries and was reported to be in stable condition. Investigators confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other and that the woman was able to escape. No officers were injured during the incident.
This marks the third officer involved shooting in the City of Henderson so far this year.
Henderson Police Captain Haven Tillman addressed the public regarding domestic violence concerns, particularly during the holiday season. He urged anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help, leave the situation if possible, and contact 911, noting that law enforcement can connect victims with available resources.
Police said additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
