Duane “Keffe D” Davis, who is awaiting trial for the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, has received a separate prison sentence of 16 to 40 months after being convicted in April of engaging in a fight with another inmate in December at the Clark County Detention Center. The sentence, handed down by Judge Nadia Krall, reflects the severity of the offense, which was captured on surveillance video during a brief altercation in a common area. Davis claimed he was defending himself. The conviction stems from a guilty verdict by a jury after just 90 minutes of deliberation. Nev. law permits up to 20 years in prison for such conduct. The added sentence means Davis will likely serve time elsewhere and won’t remain in the holding facility near the courthouse where his murder trial is scheduled to begin next February. Earlier this year, Davis had also lost a bid for a new trial in the jailhouse fight case amid claims of juror misconduct.
