Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Alexander Bookman fatally shot Brandon Durham, 43, on Nov. 11, shortly after Durham called 911 to report a home invasion at his residence. Durham told dispatchers he and his 15-year-old daughter were hiding in a bathroom while intruders entered.
Police identified one of the intruders as Alejandra Boudreaux, 31, of Seattle, whom Durham had met on a dating app. The two reportedly had a casual relationship. According to authorities, Boudreaux broke into the home and attacked Durham. Bodycam footage shows a struggle between the two over a knife moments before the shooting.
Boudreaux later admitted she intended for police to fatally shoot her, citing suicidal thoughts. Records revealed police were called to Durham’s home the night before the shooting after Boudreaux refused to leave. Officer Bookman also responded to that call, though it’s unclear if he interacted directly with either party.
Durham’s family has demanded Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson file charges against Bookman, who is on paid leave pending an investigation. The DA’s office stated the review could take months.
The case has raised questions about the handling of prior incidents and police accountability, with Durham’s family and legal representatives calling for transparency.
