A Las Vegas landscaper, Ayla Ahmad, is coming forward with disturbing details about a violent encounter she had with Eddi Moreno, the man accused of killing his neighbor last week. Ahmad’s story raises concerns about Moreno’s behavior leading up to the fatal shooting.
Ahmad and her business partner own a landscaping company that operates throughout Las Vegas, including the Summerlin community where the shooting occurred. According to police documents, Moreno’s wife initially called 911 on May 13th, claiming their neighbor exposed himself to their children. Moreno alleges the neighbor threatened him, leading to the shooting. He currently faces an open murder charge.
However, Ahmad alleges a troubling incident with Moreno five weeks prior to the shooting. While working on a nearby property with her partner and children, a black Nissan driven by Moreno sped around a corner, nearly hitting them. When Ahmad yelled at him to slow down, she says Moreno became enraged.
According to Ahmad and police documents, a heated argument ensued. Moreno allegedly slapped Ahmad’s phone away, then threw her to the ground, injuring her shoulder and face. Witnesses corroborated the incident, stating Moreno’s anger was uncontrollable and one neighbor intervened with pepper spray.
Despite the severity of the assault, police reportedly didn’t arrive at the scene until nearly five hours later. No charges have been filed against Moreno for this incident as of yet.
Ahmad is understandably shaken by the experience, fearing for her safety and the safety of her colleagues as they work in the area. With Moreno released on bail for the murder charge and neighbors expressing concern about his unpredictable behavior, the Summerlin community remains on edge.
Eddi Moreno’s attorney has not responded to requests for comment on this latest development. His murder trial is scheduled for August.
