A teacher at a Las Vegas charter school has been arrested on child sex abuse charges, according to court records and school officials. The teacher, 30-year-old Marco Penaloza Jr., was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on multiple felony counts, including permitting a minor aged 14 or older to be part of a sexual portrayal and permitting production of sexual abuse material. Penaloza had been employed at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy in east Las Vegas, an all-girls charter school serving grades six through ten. Upon learning of the arrest, the school immediately removed and later terminated Penaloza from his duties. In a public statement, school leaders clarified that so far, no connection has been established between the allegations and any current or former students of the school. Penaloza’s bail was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled for a status check hearing next Tuesday.
