Las Vegas Drivers Brace for Airport Traffic Chaos Amid Construction
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, February 9, 2025 2:54 pm
Starting Monday night, Las Vegas drivers will face significant lane reductions near Harry Reid International Airport as part of a project aimed at improving traffic flow.
While the intention is to enhance long-term traffic efficiency, the immediate impact is causing concern among local drivers. Rideshare operator Virginia Sanchez expressed her frustration, stating, “I’m going to avoid the airport as much as possible because the construction is a waste of time.” She emphasized that the roadwork could negatively affect her business due to increased fuel consumption and time lost in traffic.
The construction coincides with a major convention and Valentine’s Day, times when the city expects heightened activity. Another driver, Linda Alexander, highlighted the potential for severe congestion, noting that with the lane reduction, “just imagine a hundred drivers pulling out of here to go get a ride.”
Despite the inconvenience, some residents acknowledge the necessity of the upgrades. David Haboush remarked, “It’s 100% going to make a big difference in the long run and needs to be done. There’s a lot of growth in this city.”
Airport officials advise non-airport traffic to avoid the area during the construction period, which is scheduled to conclude on February 14.
