Las Vegas Drownings Surge as Temperatures Climb

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, June 19, 2025 10:00 am

Las Vegas authorities have confirmed a second drowning this week in the valley, as heat climbs and water safety becomes an urgent concern. On Wednesday afternoon, a man was discovered unresponsive in a residential pool near Palma Vista Avenue and South Eastern, and LVMPD is treating the case as a drowning. This incident follows a harrowing near-drowning of a young girl at an apartment complex in North Las Vegas just days earlier. With seven drownings recorded in the valley last year, police are lifting the alarm: secure pool gates, always supervise swimmers, keep lifesaving devices nearby, get swim lessons for kids, and ensure adults maintain CPR training. Rising temperatures demand personal accountability—this summer, cooling off comes with responsibility. Our freedom to enjoy poolside leisure means little if it puts lives at risk.
