A Las Vegas-to-Edmonton WestJet flight was forced to return to Harry Reid International Airport on Monday night due to a potential engine issue.
WestJet Flight 1449, a Boeing 737-700, departed for Edmonton International Airport in Canada at approximately 8:35 pm. Flight tracking software FlightAware indicates the plane turned back shortly after takeoff.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed to FOX5 that the flight crew reported a “possible engine issue” and returned to Harry Reid around 9:45 pm. The FAA will be investigating the incident.
WestJet removed the aircraft from service for a thorough maintenance inspection.
“We are sincerely sorry for the delay this has caused our guests,” said a WestJet spokesperson. “WestJet has full confidence in the safety of our fleet and our industry-leading safety standards.”
The flight is now rescheduled to arrive in Edmonton at midnight on Wednesday, July 10th.
