Lyten Announces Plans for World’s First Lithium-Sulfur Battery Gigafactory in Reno

Reno, NV – Lithium-sulfur battery company Lyten has announced plans to construct the world’s first lithium-sulfur battery gigafactory in the Reno area. The company will invest over $1 billion in the facility, which is expected to have an annual production capacity of up to 10 GWh of batteries once fully operational.
“Today marks a significant milestone in Lyten’s nine-year journey,” said Dan Cook, Lyten Co-Founder and CEO. “Lithium-sulfur represents a breakthrough in battery technology, offering a high-energy density, lightweight battery that utilizes abundantly available local materials and is manufactured entirely in the United States.”
The Nevada Governor, Joe Lombardo, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Nevada is rapidly becoming a central hub for U.S. battery manufacturing. Lyten’s decision to establish the world’s first lithium-sulfur battery gigafactory here highlights the strategic advantages our state offers to leading technology companies. With our robust infrastructure and skilled workforce, Nevada is well-positioned for continued growth and job creation in the future.”
Lyten’s lithium-sulfur batteries are set to enter the market for micromobility, space, drone, and defense applications in 2024 and 2025. The new facility, spanning 1.25 million square feet on a 125-acre campus in the Reno AirLogistics Park, is expected to create over 1,000 jobs at full capacity. Initially, the facility will employ 200 people.
Groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for early next year.
