LAS VEGAS – According to an arrest complaint, a Las Vegas man is accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend after an altercation.

Jesus Navarrette, 23, is charged with murder in connection with the January 31 incident.

The victim was found outdoors with blood-stained shorts at a property near Coolidge Avenue and Main Street, identified as Navarrette and the victim’s apartment, around 5:38 p.m., according to the report.

Ashley Benitez, the victim, was discovered on the floor of the home with a gunshot wound, according to authorities. She was pronounced dead at the spot.

The study suppressed Benitez’s birth date, although her birth year indicates she was 22 or 23.

According to the report, the victim’s body had “many” abrasions on her hands and face, while investigators discovered “several” scratches on Navarrette’s forearms, back, neck, and legs.

In an interview with police, Navarrette stated that he and Benitez, who had been dating for two years and were living together, had been fighting often in the previous month. According to the report, he said that on the day of her death, they were bickering at home when he placed a revolver on the bed and laid down, prompting Benitez to attack him by scratching and punching him.

While this was going on, Nazarrette reached over to move an AR-style gun that was on the ground next to the bed. According to the report, he initially told police that he seized it, aimed it at her, and fired the trigger, but later added that Benitez had also grasped the rifle’s grip.

“As the rifle turned into her, the safety was switched to fire, and his finger was on the trigger,” police stated in the report, before Nazarrette shot her.

According to the Clark County coroner’s office, Benitez died from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Navarrette was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and was still there on Thursday. He is due to appear in court on February 7.

Anyone who is in a violent relationship or knows someone who is should get treatment immediately.
