On Monday, the man suspected of taking an SUV with two children inside in North Las Vegas was recognized.
Mario Anthony Estrada, 38, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse or neglect, second-degree abduction, and grand larceny of a motor vehicle, among other charges, according to North Las Vegas Police.
Estrada is accused of stealing a Dodge SUV from the 4700 block of W. Cheyenne Avenue around 8:30 p.m. NLVPD issued a statement on Monday. When the automobile was taken, two children were still inside, and the mother attempted to chase it down but was unsuccessful.
Estrada ultimately pulled over and let the kids out somewhere on Decatur Boulevard before fleeing the area, according to police.
A traffic officer observed the SUV entering southbound Interstate 15 from Cheyenne and initiated a chase. The SUV did not surrender, and it was unclear whether the two children were still inside.
Officers pursued the SUV to I-15 and Charleston Boulevard, where it collided with another car, and Estrada attempted to flee before being apprehended and arrested.
According to NLVPD, both children and the mother were discovered uninjured. Estrada was brought to the hospital and then put into the North Las Vegas Community Corrections Center after being cleared medically.
Minor injuries were reported by the driver of the second vehicle.
