Metro Homicide Arrests 21-Year-Old Suspect in Fatal Grand Drive Parking Lot Shooting East of Strip

LAS VEGAS, NV — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police homicide detectives have apprehended and charged a 21-year-old man in connection with a fatal Monday night shooting in a commercial parking lot situated blocks east of the Las Vegas Strip.

The suspect, identified by authorities as Andrew Avalos, 21, was taken into custody Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and booked into the Clark County Detention Center (CCDC) on felony charges of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, police confirmed in an updated department release.

Gunfire in Commercial Lot Following Dispute

The fatal altercation originated shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21.

At approximately 6:57 p.m., emergency dispatchers at Metro Communications were flooded with 911 reports of multiple gunshots echoing across the 4600 block of Grand Drive, an urban commercial and residential pocket near the Harmon Avenue and Koval Lane resort intersection.

Arriving patrol units discovered an adult male lying on the pavement of a commercial parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Medical personnel from the Clark County Fire Department responded within minutes, but the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives established that the victim and the suspect were engaged in a heated verbal confrontation.

During the argument, the shooter pulled out a handgun, discharged multiple rounds into the victim, and fled the scene on foot before patrol cruisers arrived.

Arrest and Booking into CCDC

Detectives identified Avalos as the primary suspect using surveillance video recovered from adjacent commercial businesses and witness interviews.

Members of Metro’s Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested Avalos on Wednesday without incident.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office is withholding the victim’s name pending formal identification and family notification.

Avalos remains held at the Clark County Detention Center pending his initial arraignment in Las Vegas Justice Court.
