Metro Homicide Arrests 22-Year-Old in Fatal June ShotSpotter Shooting Near Downtown Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV — Nearly three months after acoustic gunshot sensors alerted patrol officers to a late-night homicide, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have apprehended and formally charged a 22-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a man found on a sidewalk near downtown Las Vegas.

The suspect, identified by police as Robert Soto, 22, was located and taken into custody Monday, September 21, 2026, before being booked into the Clark County Detention Center (CCDC) on charges of open murder with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, according to an LVMPD news release.

Midnight Gunfire Flagged by ShotSpotter

The homicide investigation originated during the early morning hours of Friday, June 27, 2026.

At approximately 12:45 a.m., Metro’s dispatch received an automated alert from ShotSpotter—the metropolitan area’s acoustic gunfire detection array—pinpointing multiple rounds discharged in the area of North 15th Street and Mesquite Avenue, situated just east of the Fremont East and downtown urban corridor.

Patrol officers dispatched to the geographic coordinates located an adult male lying unresponsive on the sidewalk in front of a residential home in the 300 block of North 15th Street.

Emergency medical responders treated the victim at the scene, but he succumbed to traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead on the pavement.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office subsequently identified the victim as 59-year-old Uriel Dominguez-Lopez.

Following an autopsy examination, the coroner determined Dominguez-Lopez died of fatal gunshot wounds to the torso and officially ruled the manner of death a homicide.

Three-Month Detective Investigation Culminates in Felony Warrant

Detectives with Metro’s Homicide Section spent nearly 12 weeks canvassing the mixed residential neighborhood, reviewing private video security footage, and processing forensic ballistics recovered from the scene.

The evidence enabled detectives to establish Soto as the primary shooting suspect and secure an arrest warrant.

Apprehension teams located Soto on Monday, taking him into custody without incident.
