Metro Police Release Video of Gunman on E-Bike Fleeing Ambush of Off-Duty Corrections Officer

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has released surveillance video capturing a gunman fleeing on an electric bicycle after ambushing an off-duty corrections officer in a northwest valley commercial parking lot.

The shooting occurred at approximately 8:43 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, outside a storefront in the 7600 block of West Cheyenne Avenue, near North Buffalo Drive. The investigation is being led by Metro’s Violent Gun Crime Unit (VGCU) under Event #LLV260900082271.

Ambushed in a Commercial Parking Lot

According to detectives, the victim was walking out of a business into the commercial lot when a male riding a black electric bicycle passed him.

The rider circled back toward the off-duty officer a second time, pulled out a handgun, and fired several rounds directly at him, striking him. The shooter then pedaled away on the e-bike before patrol units arrived.

Responding officers provided emergency first aid until medical responders transported the officer to a nearby hospital. Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed that the officer was in stable condition, noting that surveillance footage indicates the victim was deliberately targeted.

Detectives Seek Video and Public Tips

The surveillance clip released by Metro shows the suspect pedaling through commercial corridors and alleyways immediately after the gunfire.

Detectives are requesting business operators and residents along West Cheyenne Avenue, North Buffalo Drive, and Tenaya Way to review external cameras recorded between 8:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on September 21.
