Motorcyclist Killed in Pre-Dawn Collision on I-11 Southbound

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, April 24, 2026 4:23 pm

LAS VEGAS, NV — A motorcyclist was killed early Friday morning following a violent collision with a pickup truck on the Interstate 11 freeway, marking another grim milestone for Southern Nevada traffic safety this month.

The Collision

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), the crash occurred at approximately 2:47 a.m. on Friday, April 24, on southbound I-11 at the Tropicana Avenue interchange. Investigators report that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the involved pickup truck remained at the site and is currently cooperating with investigators. While the cause of the crash is still under determination, authorities have not yet confirmed if speed or impairment were factors in the incident.

Traffic Gridlock and Detours

The investigation triggered a massive shutdown of the southbound I-11 corridor for several hours during the morning rush.

  • Complete Closure: All southbound travel lanes were closed at Tropicana, with traffic being diverted onto the off-ramp.

  • On-Ramp Impact: The I-11/Tropicana southbound on-ramp was also shut down until mid-morning as crews cleared the wreckage.

  • Commute Impact: Gridlock spilled onto Boulder Highway and surface streets through the Henderson area before lanes were finally reopened later Friday.

    The Tally of 2026

This fatality adds to a disturbing trend on Clark County roads. This incident follows closely behind a separate fatal pedestrian accident in Laughlin earlier this week. To date in 2026, Nevada has seen over 80 traffic-related deaths statewide, with a significant majority occurring in the Las Vegas metropolitan area.
