Nevada Department of Education Appoints Tom Greene as Chief Strategy Officer

CARSON CITY, NV — The Nevada Department of Education (NDE) announced the appointment of veteran education policy and technology executive Tom Greene as its new Chief Strategy Officer, effective September 1, 2026.

The announcement was made by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Victor Wakefield. In his new cabinet-level advisory role, Greene will collaborate directly with Superintendent Wakefield to oversee agency-wide alignment, drive internal operating systems, and advance measurable outcomes across Nevada’s 17 school districts and the State Public Charter School Authority.

Two Decades of Policy, EdTech, and Data Expertise

Greene brings over 20 years of experience spanning classroom instruction, public sector advocacy, and enterprise educational technology to the Silver State’s agency.

His background in Nevada public policy includes more than a decade of collaboration with state leaders, including advisory work supporting the rollout of Nevada’s foundational Read by Grade 3 legislation in 2015. In 2019, Greene served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence with Las Vegas-based education advocacy group Opportunity 180, conducting a feasibility analysis to launch an education advocacy nonprofit supported by Nevada’s business community.

Across the private and technology sectors, Greene held senior leadership positions at SAS Institute as Senior Education Policy Advisor—partnering with state agencies to improve student academic growth through data analytics—and at Lenovo, where he directed state government relations and public sector IT modernization. Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President of Advocacy at the Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd) and began his professional life as a high school teacher through the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program.

Advancing Statewide Accountability and Performance

In his capacity as Chief Strategy Officer, Greene will focus on system-level coordination, performance management, and stakeholder engagement alongside the Nevada State Board of Education and the state legislature.

Greene holds a Bachelor of Science in History and Secondary Education from Appalachian State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
