Nevada’s Largest Animal Shelter Enters "Red Capacity" Emergency, Calls on Public for Urgent Adoptions

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Animal Foundation, Nevada’s largest animal shelter facility, has declared a critical “Red Capacity” crisis after intake numbers pushed kennel space past operational limits across its 8-acre Las Vegas campus.

Shelter administrators issued an emergency alert on Sunday afternoon, calling on Southern Nevada residents to adopt, foster, or reclaim missing pets immediately to prevent humane space rationing.

Surging Intakes Strain Valley Kennel Resources

The declaration follows a surge in stray intakes and owner surrenders across Clark County over the final weeks of July, fueled by high summer heat and economic pressures on local households.

Shelter officials confirmed that dog kennels are operating at 115% capacity, with staff converting multi-purpose spaces into temporary housing units to accommodate incoming animals.

Emergency Adoption Initiatives Launched

In response to the overcrowding, The Animal Foundation has launched a week-long emergency adoption campaign:

Fee Waivers: Adoption fees are completely waived for all dogs weighing 30 pounds or more through Sunday, August 9, 2026.
Included Care: Every adoption includes spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations, microchipping, and a voucher for a complimentary veterinary exam.
Temporary Foster Push: The shelter is asking community members who cannot commit to permanent adoption to take in dogs for short-term 14-day “foster stays” to free up critical kennel space.

“Our kennels are completely full, and our team is doing everything possible to provide care under extreme space constraints,” shelter leadership noted in a public release. “We need the Las Vegas community to step up today—whether by adopting, fostering, or helping reunite lost pets with their families—to help us navigate this crisis.”

The Animal Foundation’s main campus, located at 655 N. Mojave Road, is open for adoptions daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
