Las Vegas, Nevada – A terrible multi-vehicle accident occurred in the northeast Las Vegas valley, taking the lives of one person and injuring two more. At approximately 6:10 p.m. on Friday, close to the intersection of Alto Avenue and Bledsoe Lane and not far from Nellis Boulevard, an incident happened.
The initial reports that drew police attention indicated that a man and woman were allegedly in the act of stealing parts from a stolen vehicle. Body-worn cameras worn by the officers captured footage of the suspects fleeing the scene in a Chevrolet Tahoe as Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) patrol vehicles arrived.
The Chevrolet Tahoe sped away at a high rate of speed, heading westbound on Alto Avenue, approaching Betty Lane. Officers did not pursue the suspect vehicle at this point. However, tragedy struck when the suspect vehicle failed to stop for a posted stop sign and collided with the right side of a Chevrolet Silverado traveling northbound.
The impact redirected the Chevrolet Silverado to the northwest, causing it to collide with a parked and unoccupied utility truck from the 1940s to 1950s and a Nissan Quest.
Medical responders quickly assessed the condition of the Chevrolet Tahoe’s driver and determined that he had sustained injuries beyond medical resuscitation. Tragically, the 33-year-old male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, identified as 28-year-old female suspect Patricia Valencia, was transported to UMC Trauma by ambulance to receive treatment for moderate injuries. Additionally, the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado sustained moderate injuries and was also transported to UMC Trauma for medical care.
The untimely death of the Chevrolet Tahoe’s driver marks the 104th traffic-related fatality within the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for the year 2023.
