Persistent Blaze at Nevada Solar Storage Site Prompts Ongoing Response
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, September 25, 2025 1:39 pm
A lithium battery fire in Boulder City has continued to burn for two days after first being reported at a solar storage facility. Fire officials said the blaze, which began Sunday, has proven difficult to fully extinguish because of the nature of lithium battery fires, which can reignite even after being suppressed.
The fire has created a persistent plume of smoke in the area, raising concerns about air quality. Boulder City officials confirmed that state and federal agencies have been monitoring the situation while crews work on containment. Specialized equipment and firefighting methods are being used to manage the smoldering site.
As of Tuesday evening, the fire had not spread beyond the facility, and no injuries were reported. Authorities advised residents to avoid the area until conditions are stabilized.
