Las Vegas, NV — President Biden arrived in Las Vegas on Friday to discuss the recent funding injection of $3 billion into the high-speed rail project connecting Southern California and Las Vegas. The funding, announced on Tuesday, is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The news conference, held at the Carpenters International Training Center near Harry Reid International Airport, addressed the historic high-speed railway project that has faced numerous challenges over the decades.
Air Force 1 touched down at Las Vegas airport at 12:52 p.m., and within 13 minutes, President Biden was engaging with local union members. He then boarded the presidential limousine en route to the event.
While originally slated to focus on infrastructure, the President also touched on the recent tragic shooting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where three lost their lives, and one remains hospitalized. White House officials confirmed that President Biden addressed the UNLV incident during the news conference.
The high-speed rail project has a long and tumultuous history, marked by multiple failed attempts. However, with the substantial funding boost, the prospect of a high-speed rail link between Las Vegas and Southern California takes a significant stride toward realization.
