Real ID Deadline Approaching: Are You Ready for May 7?
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, January 30, 2025 10:01 am
The clock is ticking for Nevada residents as the May 7, 2025, Real ID deadline looms. If you plan to fly domestically, enter a military base, or access certain federal facilities, you’ll need a Real ID or an alternative federally approved form of identification. Yet, with time running out, many Nevadans are still unprepared for the process.
Avoid the Last-Minute Rush—What You Need to Know
The Nevada DMV is urging residents to act now to avoid long lines and unnecessary delays. Many applicants face setbacks due to missing or incorrect documents, with one of the biggest mistakes being failure to bring original documents instead of photocopies. If you’ve changed your name due to marriage, divorce, or adoption, you must provide legal proof of your name change.
What Do You Need to Bring?
To ensure a smooth process, applicants must bring:
✅ One official proof of identity (passport, birth certificate, or permanent resident card)
✅ Social Security verification (Social Security card, W-2, or printed pay stub)
✅ Two documents proving residency (utility bill, lease, or bank statement)
For frequent travelers like Las Vegas resident Sean Concepcion, getting a Real ID early was a no-brainer. “I figured I’d get it done before the rush,” he said. Others, however, have already faced delays due to missing documents. Tiffany, another local, was recently at the DMV when she realized she was missing the gold star on her driver’s license, meaning she would need to carry her passport to fly.
Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late
Nevada DMV officials warn against procrastination. If you have a flight planned or need federal access, apply now. With the deadline just months away, the rush at DMV offices will only increase.
