LAS VEGAS, NV — Alejandro Estrada, the 43-year-old suspect accused of gunning down his former partner and her husband inside a crowded south valley supermarket last week, was formally denied bail during his initial appearance at the Regional Justice Center. A Clark County judge ordered Estrada to remain in custody without bond, citing the “extreme public safety threat” and localized terror posed by the brazen daytime assault.
Tragedy in Aisle 4
The violent incident unfolded on Tuesday morning, May 12, 2026, inside the Smith’s grocery store located at the intersection of South Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch Boulevard.
- The Victims: Amanda Frias Rosas, 35, and her husband, Victor Frias Rosas, whom she married in February 2025. Both were declared dead at the scene by arriving emergency medical personnel.
- The Motive: According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) homicide detectives, Estrada and Amanda Frias Rosas split in 2021 and had been locked in a bitter, ongoing child custody and support dispute. Tragically, the shooting occurred on their son’s 12th birthday.
-
The Arrest: Estrada was heavily armed but was quickly subdued inside the store by three courageous civilians who tackled and restrained him until Metro officers arrived.
Estrada faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of open murder, burglary while possession of a firearm, and aggravated stalking.
Crisis Teams Wrap Support Deployments
In the wake of the targeted double-homicide, the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) of Southern Nevada finalized its week-long emergency field counseling operations at the site.
TIP crisis volunteers spent days working directly with deeply shaken Smith’s grocery store employees, administrative staff, and neighborhood shoppers who witnessed the chaotic gunfire. The grocery store has since slowly normalized its operations under heightened on-site security measures.
