Suspect Arrested in Homicide After 6-Year-Old Ran to Neighbor to Report Mother Shot

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe)- According to police records, a suspect was detained for murder after a 6-year-old went to a neighbor in Las Vegas to tell their mother had been shot last week.
On Friday, Ishmil Swafford, 43, was transported into the Clark County Detention Center. The incident number associated with Swafford’s arrest corresponds to the one used by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police in a press release on Thursday’s tragic shooting.
Officers arrived around 1:20 a.m. Lt. David Valenta told reporters Thursday that he responded to a 911 call regarding a woman shot near Russell Road and Tenaya Way.
A 46-year-old woman was discovered dead from a gunshot wound.
Investigators discovered that a 6-year-old walked to a neighbor’s house to report that their mother had been shot, and the neighbor contacted 911, according to Valenta.
According to police, she was shot by her boyfriend, who fled the area before officers arrived.
More information on Swafford’s arrest was not immediately available.
