BOULDER CITY, Nev. (Clark County) — Authorities are investigating a terrorism-related incident after a driver crashed a vehicle through a secured gate at a power substation near Boulder City, then was found dead at the scene, according to law enforcement officials.

Police said the crash happened Thursday at a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power facility in the Boulder City area. Officers responded after a 911 call reported a vehicle had breached the perimeter and that gunfire had been heard. Investigators later identified the driver as Dawson Maloney, 23, of Albany, New York, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill said during a briefing.

McMahill said investigators recovered weapons, ammunition, and materials that raised concern about possible intent to damage critical infrastructure. Officials also said they found books tied to extremist ideologies and components associated with incendiary and explosive materials. The FBI is assisting with the investigation, including follow-up activity in New York, authorities said.

Boulder City Police Chief Tim Shea said there was no indication of major damage to the facility and no reported service interruptions linked to the incident. Officials said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine motive, reconstruct the timeline, and analyze evidence recovered from the vehicle and related locations.
