The Transportation Security Administration has introduced a proposed rule that may increase costs for some airline passengers during the upcoming peak travel season. According to the agency, the plan would adjust the security fee structure for travelers, which could add up to $18 for certain trips depending on the type of ticket purchased and how itineraries are structured.
The proposal is now under federal review and open for public comment. Officials say the adjustment is intended to align fee collection with current travel patterns and ensure consistent funding for security operations at airports nationwide. The agency has not announced when a final decision will be made.
