Wait Times Average Under 20 Minutes Despite Federal Funding Standoff

While major airports across the country are grappling with security lines stretching several hours, operations at Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) remain remarkably stable. As of Tuesday morning, travelers are reporting wait times as low as 4 to 15 minutes, even as the partial federal government shutdown enters its second month. The resilience of the local TSA workforce is being attributed to a massive surge in community support, led by the reopening of the airport’s “Food & Essentials Pantry” and a high-profile delivery of 700 chef-prepared meals from MGM Resorts International.
Airport officials, including Director of Aviation James C. Chrisley, noted that despite nearly 1,000 local TSA officers working without pay, Las Vegas has avoided the high “call-out” rates seen at hubs like Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta. The Clark County Department of Aviation recently remobilized the pantry to provide nonperishable goods, hygiene products, and even pet supplies to federal employees. Community organizations and local businesses have stepped in to restock the facility after initial supplies were nearly exhausted last week.
As Spring Break travel peaks, travelers are still advised to arrive early, but the “chaos” seen elsewhere has yet to materialize in the valley. In a further sign of operational confidence, Harry Reid confirmed that it has not required the deployment of ICE agents to assist at checkpoints, a measure currently being used at other overwhelmed U.S. hubs. Local leaders continue to call for donations to the pantry to ensure the front-line workers who drive the city’s tourism economy remain supported.
