Residents near the scene of a multi-day barricade in Henderson are expressing relief after finally being allowed back in their homes. The standoff, which began last Friday on Callen Falls Avenue near Galleria and Water Street, ended tragically on Sunday with the suspect found deceased inside the residence.
One neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, described the surreal experience. He was at home when law enforcement arrived and requested access to his second-story window. The officer then used the vantage point to position a rifle towards the house involved in the barricade. Urged by the officer to evacuate for safety reasons, the neighbor and his wife spent the weekend at a friend’s place.
“It felt unreal,” the neighbor said. “I’m glad it happened when the kids were away at school, though.”
The incident caused displacement for residents in six units within the complex. The Red Cross of Southern Nevada provided assistance to these roughly 20 individuals. While Henderson Police declined an interview request regarding the specifics of the barricade, they indicated that more information might be released in the coming days.
