A man using a wheelchair was struck and killed early Sunday while crossing West Flamingo Road, authorities said. Police responded at about 5:22 a.m. near South El Capitan Way, where a 2024 Kia Forte traveling eastbound struck the pedestrian, who was crossing outside a marked crosswalk.
The collision reportedly occurred when the driver’s vehicle struck the man’s wheelchair from the front-left side, ejecting him from the chair. The victim, described as a man in his 50s to 60s, was taken to University Medical Center’s trauma center, where he died despite advanced medical efforts.
The driver, a 66-year-old Las Vegas woman, remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. Police say she cooperated with investigators.
The fatality marks the 148th traffic-related death this year within Metro’s jurisdiction. Police continue to investigate the crash, reviewing evidence and surveillance footage to reconstruct events leading up to the collision.
