Elko County, NV – A man suspected of firing shots at a pickup truck on a Nevada highway Wednesday night was found dead in his vehicle approximately 30 miles south of Wells, according to the Elko County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of death remains under investigation.

- Around midnight on Wednesday, a northbound Dodge Challenger fired a shot at a southbound GMC pickup truck on U.S. 93 near Wells.
- The Challenger then pursued the pickup, firing at least one more shot before the truck driver evaded them.
- The pickup driver reported the incident to authorities in Wells.
- Dispatch received a call later indicating the Challenger stopped on the highway south of Wells.
- Responding officers found the driver deceased in the vehicle with a rifle and handgun nearby.
- The man’s cause of death was not from a gunshot wound, and an autopsy is pending.
- Authorities found fentanyl and methamphetamine in the vehicle.
- The deceased man, believed to be from California, carried Alaska license plates. Identification efforts are ongoing.
