MOUNT CHARLESTON- According to his family and search groups, a 75-year-old man who went missing while hiking in Nevada was discovered dead this weekend.
Rock Stanley was last seen hiking at Mount Charleston about 5 a.m. on August 23. Stanley, according to his relatives, was an accomplished hiker.
A family member announced in a Facebook group dedicated to finding Stanley that he had been discovered and that they were awaiting formal identification. Red Rock Search and Rescue, who discovered Stanley’s body, expressed their condolences to his family.
A week after his father went missing, KVVU met with Stanley’s son Ken Stanley.
“You never anticipate something like this, it’s like watching a movie it happens to other people. This kind of stuff never happens to us,” “This never happens to us,” Ken Stanley explained.
Ken Stanley said his father had a full life, having spent decades as a Marine, obtaining the Meritorious Honor Award for his service, and teaching and coaching in Texas for 36 years.
