Man Fires on Pickup Truck, Found Dead on Nevada Highway

Elko County, NV – A man suspected of firing shots at a pickup truck on a Nevada highway Wednesday night was found dead in his vehicle approximately 30 miles south of Wells, according to the Elko County Sheriff’s Office. The cause of death remains under investigation.

Incident Details:

  • Around midnight on Wednesday, a northbound Dodge Challenger fired a shot at a southbound GMC pickup truck on U.S. 93 near Wells.
  • The Challenger then pursued the pickup, firing at least one more shot before the truck driver evaded them.
  • The pickup driver reported the incident to authorities in Wells.
  • Dispatch received a call later indicating the Challenger stopped on the highway south of Wells.
  • Responding officers found the driver deceased in the vehicle with a rifle and handgun nearby.
  • The man’s cause of death was not from a gunshot wound, and an autopsy is pending.
  • Authorities found fentanyl and methamphetamine in the vehicle.
