Measles Exposure Warning: UC Davis Emergency Department on March 5th

El Dorado County health officials are warning residents of a potential measles exposure at the UC Davis Emergency Department on Tuesday, March 5th.

A child with a confirmed case of measles was seen at the emergency department between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. after being initially evaluated at San Joaquin Urgent Care. El Dorado County estimates that as many as 300 people may have been exposed during this time.

If you were in the UC Davis Emergency Department between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. on March 5th, please call the El Dorado County Public Health line immediately.

Do not go directly to the Emergency Department. This could increase the spread of the virus and put others at risk.

“We will be contacting confirmed patients who were at the UC Davis Emergency Department during the specified timeframe,” said Dr. Matthew Minson, El Dorado County’s Public Health Officer. “We urge everyone to remain calm and follow the guidance of our public health team.”

Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can cause serious health complications. Symptoms include fever, rash, cough, and runny nose.
