By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, August 29, 2022 10:39 am
The Second Street on-ramp to northbound Interstate 580 will be closed from August 8 to September. 2 as part of the Nevada Department of Transportation’s ongoing Reno spaghetti bowl improvements
Beginning at around 6 a.m. From August 8 to September 2, the Second Street on-ramp to northbound I-580 will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week as crews install landscape monuments and roadway sign foundations.
Drivers traveling westbound on Second Street will be able to take a detour via Kietzke Lane to the Mill Street on-ramp to I-580 northbound. Westbound traffic will be detoured via Rock Boulevard and Greg Street to the Mill Street on-ramp to northbound I-580.
One lane of northbound I-580 will also be closed between Second Street and the spaghetti bowl. The schedule is subject to change.
The improvements are part of the first phase of NDOT’s Spaghetti Bowl renovations, popularly known Spaghetti Bowl Xpress.
Crews have placed 25,000 cubic yards of new concrete to create three new southbound lanes since construction began in 2020, and are working to replace or widen eight bridges.
The eastbound I-80 to southbound I-580 Spaghetti Bowl ramp will be widened to two lanes when construction is completed at the end of 2022, and the eastbound Interstate 80 lanes between Wells Avenue and the Spaghetti Bowl will be restriped to provide EB I-80 with improved access to I-580.
Improved ramps, additional lanes, widened shoulders, and other improvements will be made on southbound I-580 between the Spaghetti Bowl and Plumb Lane, as well as sound and aesthetic walls.
