Nevada Department Of Insurance Urges Nevadans To Explore Flood Insurance Coverage

NEVADA – After a heavy winter that delivered snow and rain to northern Nevada, the Nevada Division of Insurance is asking Nevadans to consider purchasing flood insurance and to assess their flood risk.
Northern California was slammed by days of flooding around one month ago, resulting in over 20 deaths, billions of dollars in damages, and the displacement of thousands of residents.
The Nevada Department of Insurance states that regular homeowners’ insurance does not cover flood damage. Even when federal disasters are declared, most relief comes in the form of low-interest loans that cover only a percentage of the costs and must be returned.
Both the National Flood Insurance Program and private insurance companies provide flood insurance.
