Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners Suspends License of Reno Doctor Amid Medical Malpractice Allegations

The Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners has taken action to suspend the medical license of a Reno doctor, Dr. Samuel Chacon, who stands accused of medical malpractice. The suspension order, issued on September 5th, cites findings from a thorough investigation, stating that Chacon’s actions pose a serious risk to the health, safety, and welfare of the public, as outlined under NRS 630.326(1).

The order sheds light on events leading up to this suspension, noting that in November 2022, Dr. Chacon voluntarily surrendered his hospital privileges at Renown, rendering him incapable of delivering prenatal care to his patients.

One particularly troubling incident highlighted in the order pertains to a high-risk pregnancy involving twins in March 2023. It is alleged that Dr. Chacon failed to refer the patient to an appropriate care provider capable of handling the delivery or make arrangements with another physician group to assume prenatal care responsibilities.

Despite these circumstances, the Board asserts that Dr. Chacon continued to offer prenatal care to established patients and even actively advertised for and accepted new prenatal patients despite his lack of hospital privileges and the incapacity to oversee patient deliveries.

The immediate suspension will remain in effect until further action is taken by the Board or at least until October 12th, when a hearing on the matter is scheduled.

Notably, this isn’t the first time Dr. Samuel Chacon has faced legal issues. In October 2022, he was arrested during a two-day operation targeting alleged prostitution and other sex-related crimes near the University of Nevada, Reno.

Protests have erupted outside Dr. Chacon’s Moana Lane office, with several women accusing him of medical malpractice, including performing unnecessary surgeries, botched operations, and abusive practices. Court documents indicate that Dr. Chacon is currently under investigation for four active medical cases.

The Women’s Health Center of Reno, where Dr. Chacon practices, has not issued a comment on the matter.

Organizers are now advocating for state lawmakers to address the allegations against Dr. Chacon, while efforts to reach his legal representation for comment have thus far yielded no response.
