Palisades Tahoe just completed the installation of a new gondola that connects the ski area to Alpine Meadows. It is scheduled to be up and operating by mid-December.
In 16 minutes, 96 cabins can transport eight snowboarders, skiers, or sightseers between the two places.
The gondola was installed, the Red Dog chairlift was replaced with a high-speed 6-seater, a new plaza was built, and other upgrades were performed. The total cost is $85 million.
Alpine Meadows Senior Advisor Casey Blann stated that the gondola is employing new expensive technology to operate the lift, which is more efficient, quieter, and almost maintenance-free.
This is a project that has been in the works for decades.
The gondola will function as two distinct lifts connected at a mid station, so if the wind closes down one side of the ski hill, the other gondola will be able to operate.
Osvaldo Ancinas, an Argentine Olympian from the 1960s, expressed enthusiasm for the new gondola. He stated that it is beneficial to both the ski area and the town.
