RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – NDOT has removed the chain requirement on I-80.
As a winter storm approaches northern Nevada, the Nevada Department of Transportation has implemented chain regulations. Chains or snow tires are necessary on numerous highways and roads in the Reno-Sparks area, notably from the McCarran Boulevard exit on Interstate 80 in Sparks west to the state border. Chains or 4-wheel drive with snow tires are necessary from the state line to Gold Run in California.
Chains or snow tires are also required on US 395 north of the Spaghetti Bowl, I-580 and US 395 Alternate through Washoe Valley, Geiger Grade, and Highway 28 along Lake Tahoe’s east side. Over Mt. Rose Summit, Spooner Summit, and Daggett Pass, chains or 4-wheel drive are necessary.
Current chain regulations in Nevada and California may be found here.
