U.S. 395 Fully Reopened Following Avalanche Closure

NEVADA – After being closed for over a month, U.S. 395 between Lee Vining and State Route 167 has been fully reopened to all vehicles without escort. The closure was put in place due to a series of avalanches that had buried the road and damaged safety infrastructure at the end of February.
Since March, crews have been working tirelessly to clear the roadway of snow, fallen trees, and rocks, as well as repairing guardrail, K-rail, and rock fall fencing. Limited vehicle escorts were made available in late March, but it wasn’t until earlier this week that the highway was fully accessible 24/7 in both directions for all vehicles without escort.
Travelers are advised to check Quickmap.dot.ca.gov for the latest road conditions, including chain control restrictions, before heading out on their journey. For additional information, they can also call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
