Pedestrian Killed Near Las Vegas Strip in Early Morning Intersection Collision

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section is actively investigating a fatal early morning pedestrian crash that occurred near the resort corridor on Wednesday.
The incident marks the 66th traffic-related fatality within Metro’s jurisdiction for 2026.
The Collision Sequence at Resorts World Drive
According to official press logs released by Metro, patrol units and medical personnel responded to the intersection of South Sammy Davis Jr. Drive and Resorts World Avenue at approximately 3:17 AM on July 22.
Surveillance footage and physical evidence gathered at the scene revealed that a 36-year-old female pedestrian from Duarte, California, was attempting to cross the intersection diagonally from the southwest corner to the northeast corner. Investigators noted that she was navigating against a steady pedestrian signal and outside of a designated crosswalk.
At the same time, a northbound 2025 Toyota Prius was approaching the intersection on a green light. The collision occurred when the pedestrian slipped and fell directly into the path of travel.

Driver Cooperates as Investigation Continues
Arriving emergency medical personnel transported the pedestrian to the UMC Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite resuscitation efforts, she was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. Her identity is being withheld pending formal notification of next of kin.
The 32-year-old driver of the Prius remained at the scene and cooperated with responding officers. While field officers initially detained the driver for an impairment evaluation, the case remains under active review by collision investigators to finalize all contributing factors.
