Sustained Triple-Digit Conditions and Minimal Nighttime Cooling

Meteorologists report that the current summer heat wave is being fueled by an expansive ridge of upper-level high pressure trapping thermal energy directly across the desert Southwest.

Exacerbating the extreme daytime conditions, overnight low temperatures are offering minimal atmospheric relief, remaining trapped in the upper 80s to low 90s. The persistent lack of nocturnal cooling prevents ambient indoor structures and urban pavement from shedding heat, significantly compounding the cumulative health risk for vulnerable populations, outdoor workers, and unsheltered residents.
