18-Year-Old Arrested by Criminal Apprehension Team for Open Murder in Fatal Kepler Drive Apartment Shooting

LAS VEGAS, NV — Detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Homicide Section, working alongside the multi-agency Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT), have arrested 18-year-old Browdy Lee Shaffer in connection with the fatal shooting of a juvenile male inside an east valley apartment.

Shaffer was taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Detention Center (CCDC) on a felony charge of Open Murder with the Use of a Deadly Weapon.

Gunfire Inside an East Valley Apartment Complex

The deadly incident occurred in the 6900 block of Kepler Drive, located near East Carey Avenue and North Hollywood Boulevard.

LVMPD Communications received emergency 911 calls at approximately 4:42 PM reporting that a male juvenile had been shot inside an apartment unit.

Patrol officers arrived to find the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical responders administered first aid at the scene and rushed the juvenile to the Trauma Center at University Medical Center (UMC), where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital physicians.

Investigation and Coordinated Task Force Apprehension

The LVMPD Homicide Section assumed control of the crime scene, interviewing witnesses and processing ballistic evidence left inside the residence.

Through forensic leads and neighborhood interviews, investigators identified Shaffer as the suspect.

Detectives requested operational assistance from the Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT)—a specialized multi-jurisdictional task force composed of the FBI, LVMPD, Henderson Police Department, and North Las Vegas Police Department.

CAT surveillance teams located Shaffer and arrested him without further incident before booking him into CCDC.
