GETTING HOSED: Carrie Buck Ad Hammers Dina Titus Over Gas Tax Record, Energy Holdings

Republican congressional nominee Carrie Buck is going on offense over gas prices, with a new television ad targeting longtime Rep. Dina Titus over her decades-old support for higher gasoline taxes and her current financial holdings in utility companies.
The new spot, titled “Getting Hosed,” is listed by AdImpact as an NRCC/Buck advertisement and features Buck delivering the closing approval. It repeatedly plays a clip of Titus saying, “You’ve got to raise the gas tax,” before accusing the Nevada Democrat of supporting higher prices while holding energy-related investments.
“Dina Titus on gas prices,” the narrator says. “You’ve got to raise the gas tax,” Dina Titus says.
Her history with Nevada’s gas tax stretches back even further.
In 1997, while serving in the Nevada Senate, Titus voted for Assembly Bill 525. The measure passed the Senate 19-2, with only Sens. Mark Amodei and Kathy Augustine voting against it.
The legislation amended an existing Nevada gas-tax backfill mechanism by removing its previous four-cent cap and broadening the trigger. Under the provision, Nevada’s state tax increases by the amount that the federal government reduces or eliminates specified federal motor-fuel taxes. That language remains in Nevada law today.
Buck’s ad also goes after Titus’ personal investments. Titus’ amended 2025 House financial disclosure, filed in August, lists a broader stock portfolio that includes holdings in utility-sector companies such as National Grid and Pinnacle West. Congressional financial disclosures report asset values and income in ranges, and the filing itself does not establish that Titus profited from current gasoline prices or from a particular government policy.
The attack arrives as affordability remains central to the race for Nevada’s 1st Congressional District. Buck has specifically identified fuel and energy costs as priorities, while Titus has blamed recent gasoline-price increases on President Donald Trump’s ongoing war with Iran.
NRCC spokesman Christian Martinez also amplified the new Buck spot on X as Republicans revived Titus’ gas-tax record heading into the final stretch of the campaign.
The political message of “Getting Hosed” is straightforward: Buck wants voters thinking about what they pay every time they pull up to a Nevada gas pump, while Titus is being forced to defend words and votes stretching back nearly three decades.
