Some Lake Tahoe Electricity May Be Cut Off For Safety Reasons

NV Energy announced Thursday that it may turn off power to around 3,300 Lake Tahoe-area customers as early as Friday night and continue until Saturday afternoon.

The purpose of Public Safety Outage Management is to lessen the likelihood of wind-caused wildfires.

The interruption will affect eight customers in Heavenly, 1,229 customers in Glenbrook, 581 people in Carson-Genoa, and 1,500 customers in Stateline and Upper Kingsbury.

The outage might begin about 9 p.m. on Friday at 1:00 a.m. Saturday and will remain until 3 p.m. Saturday. If personnel are required to fix equipment, the outage might extend longer.

Customers that are affected will be notified via phone, text, and email.

From 9 a.m. to noon, a Customer Resource Center will be open at Whittell High School, 240 Warrior Way, Zephyr Cove. to 6 p.m. Alternatively, until electricity is restored.

A spokesperson from Liberty Utilities could not be reached for comment on suspected outages in its client region near Lake Tahoe.
