LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Many folks who leave for the holidays will not return until the new year. Professional advice on how to protect your home and avoid being the next target for burglars.
There are various methods to secure your house while you are away, according to Mary Rendina of Camco, a homeowners association management organization.
“Talk to your neighbors, let them know you are going to be out of town,” Rendina said.
She also advised that all doors and windows be secured and that motion sensor lights be installed to prevent prospective criminals.
“If you can, leave a car in the driveway, put some light on inside on a timer that helps as well,” Rendina said.
However, private investigator Scot Martin advises avoiding leaving any valuables in the car.
“Make sure you put your garage door openers in your house, secure your house. So if somebody does get into your car they don’t have access to your house,” Martin said.
If you are not going on vacation, be sure to rip up any Christmas box packaging and store them inside your garbage bin so no one knows what you purchased for the holidays.
Experts also advise you to cease receiving mail until you return from your trip. During this time of year, there may be checks, gift cards, and even cash available for mailboxes.
