Low-Altitude Helicopter Flights Are Scheduled for New Year’s Eve Preparations on the Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – This week, federal officials will fly low-altitude helicopters above the Las Vegas Strip in preparation for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Flights to detect predicted background radiation will take conducted on Thursday and Saturday, December 29 and 31, according to the National Nuclear Security Administration.

According to the NNSA, flights are part of regular preparations to ensure the safety of all guests on Saturday.

According to authorities, people may spot a Bell 412 twin-engine helicopter flying in a grid pattern at 150 feet or higher off the ground.

The flyovers will take place only during daylight hours and are estimated to take two hours to complete.

Surveys are routine security and emergency preparedness operations for major events such as the Boston Marathon.

More than 400,000 people are expected to attend New Year’s Eve celebrations on the Strip and downtown this Saturday, according to officials.
